LaLa Fixes It

My very first prototype of ‘The One’ (my best selling LaLa Leads product) was given to a friend with a nearly fully grown puppy. He is a working cocker spaniel; I know I seem biased, but I make friends with people who own other dog breeds too, I promise! His name is Scout. Sometimes, we call him ‘sir’, because he often looks ridiculously regal and majestic. Anyway, before I go down a dangerous road of rambling, why am I telling you about Scout and his first big boy lead?

Well, here goes. Considering Scout was still technically a puppy at the time I made the prototype, he had some pretty good gnashers on him. While his owner innocently sat at the pub (oh the good old days…) drinking a glass of rosé with friends (Covid, could you go away now please…), Scout would quite happily wile away the hours trying to eat his lead. Although my upcycled yacht rope leads are pretty much the toughest and most durable material you can get before reverting to a chain, when chewed repeatedly, even they have a limit.

Long story short, as I am sure you have guessed, Scout chewed through his lead. My friend got in touch and told me what had happened. After discussing the many qualities of a good pub dog (Scout I hope you were listening), we decided that rather than replacing the lead, it could be easily fixed. She sent the lead back to me and I patched it up! This lead in particular was of the ‘green collection’, so I got some green whipping twine, a bit of zinc oxide tape and worked my magic. After an hour, the lead was good as new, and I am happy to report that not only is it still in great condition, but Scout has improved his pub dog skills. He now lies happily under the table sleeping soundly and dreaming of pretty bitches rather than devouring his lead from boredom.

The moral of this story you ask? As I mentioned, all of my rope products are durable, resilient and long lasting. However, even the strongest materials have their limit. My intention with this blog post is to show how easy it is to fix these issues rather than simply replacing the whole item. Not only will this cost you much less, but it will add another eco point to your already growing tally, which gets bigger with each LaLa Leads product you buy! Shipping the rope back to me, so I can repair it and get it back in action, is a great way to improve our circular economy.

Alternatively, I am considering posting some ‘LaLa Fixes It’ videos. This would mean you could save on postage and learn how to mend it yourself, which would also hopefully provide you with some knowledge and confidence in fixing other household items that may have gone awry.

Quite a long blog post from me, but I really hope it has given you an idea of how my ethos works. I am invested in the longevity and efficiency of your item from the day of production until it can genuinely no longer be used. I am hoping to improve and work with a circular economy, and ensure that just because something is broken, that does not mean it has to be thrown away and replaced. Please get in touch if any of your items need repairing, and likewise, watch this space for my upcoming videos!

Help me to save our planet, one LaLa Lead at a time.
