RePack and ReRun.
This week, I am dedicating my blog to two organisations that work with the exact same ethos as I do, and are doing as much as they can to preserve the worlds resources, little by little.
First, I want to talk about RePack; these guys are an organisation who are leading the way in the sustainable packaging sector. Based in the UK, they are working to develop a circular economy and educate businesses and consumers on reducing and recycling their packaging waste. RePack helps over 150 apparel brands and retailers in moving away from single use, non-biodegradable packaging both in Europe and North America. Here’s how they work:
- RePack sells their packaging to retailers like myself.
- The retailers ship their products in a RePack package.
- The customers receive their goods, fold up the empty RePack and pop it in a postbox for free, anywhere in the world.
- The RePacks are checked, cleaned and prepared for the next shipping cycle.
Easy as 1, 2, 3! I will very soon be offering customers the option to get their LaLa Leads order shipped in RePack packaging, which means I will be sharing my packaging with a whole pool of retailers and stores across the globe! In rethinking such a significant part of online shopping, RePack are pushing back against the linear model “take it, make it, waste it” and moving towards a circular one. This will reduce waste and pollution and keep products and materials in use, thereby regenerating natural systems in the meantime.
Absolute genius if you ask me! (https://www.repack.com)
Secondly, I want to talk about ReRun, a community interest company aimed at prolonging the life of running clothes and equipment, which sadly are some of the most common materials to find their way to landfill. Family founded and with a wonderful ethos, I want to share their work with you guys. Here are some stats to show how important giving our clothes a second life is:
- In the UK, 300,000 tonnes of used clothing goes to landfill - the equivalent weight of the Empire State Building!
- It takes 11,994 months for running shoes to even begin to decompose.
Sending your old running clothes and equipment, including trainers, to ReRun is a far superior way of finally decluttering your cupboard. Check out their website to find pre-loved running kit for men, women and children, as well as an upcycled section where goods have been made into alternative items. They also offer the ReRun Shoe Bank which offers the option to send free running shoes and equipment to individuals in need who otherwise would not be able to afford them.
Another organisation working to close the gaps in consumption and the production of waste, and doing a smashing job of it! (https://rerunclothing.org).
Please do check these guys out, take a look at their websites, their social media pages and show them your support, as we tackle the issues of climate change together, slowly but surely.
