Summer Is Upon Us!
Hello guys! I hope you are all okay. I am back in the UK after a four month stint in the French Alps, where I usually spend my winters. It has been EPIC and I have loved every minute of it, but am also super excited to spend a few months in the UK now, seeing family and friends (when the opportunity allows!) and making a tonne of leads and collars for you lovely lot!
In this weeks blog, I wanted to chat about ways to be sustainable this summer, little things you can put into practice at home that may not be so relevant in the winter. These are things I do that have helped me to ease my carbon footprint a little in the warmer months. I thought I would share some tips and tricks with you guys! So, without further ado, here we go!
First up, I rarely ever use lights in the daytime during the summer. Natural light lasts for hours in the warmer months, and is so much more lovely to bask in than electricity.
Pop down to the garden centre and pick yourself up some indoor house plants, otherwise known as… living air purifiers!! Not only do they make your home look fabulous, but they are epic at fighting indoor air pollution!
Try to find out when your local Farmer’s Market is being held, and head over to pick up some local produce, which will be in-season. This is a great way of supporting local businesses and farmers, and also will result in DELICIOUS recipes!
Is there anything better than fresh air and sunshine on your skin before work?! Thought not. If it is doable, try to walk to work, or get the train or bus where you can. Your body and soul will be as grateful for it as Mother Earth will.
Skip the dryer, and get that clean washing on a clothes horse outside in the fresh, summer air. ESPECIALLY if you have washed your bed linen, because everyone knows that bed linen dried in the breeze makes for the best nights sleep ever. Right?
Everyone loves a BBQ in the summer! I definitely do. But there are way more options than just hotdogs and burgers. Why not try throwing some mushrooms on the grill? Or halloumi, asparagus, courgette, peppers, the list goes on! Minimising meat intake is a great way to live a little more sustainably.
Don’t get caught short when you’re out and about on a hot day! And I don’t mean in the bladder sense (although that too…)! Always carry your reusable water bottle with you, especially on super warm days when you know you’ll become easily dehydrated. Plastic is one of the worst materials on our planet, so try to avoid buying single use bottles where you can.
That’s all from me for now! I hope these tips and tricks have been helpful, I am sure you guys know a lot of them already, but just thought I would write a little blog post about my favourite ones. Oooooh, and another great tip from me? If you have a pooch, get your leads and collars from LaLa Leads! Up-cycled, waterproof, durable and 100% handmade, as well as being saved from landfill. Check out my colour collections, and walk your four legged friend in style this summer.
Lots of love,
